Richard J. Weiler
With over two decades as a senior operating executive with Carpenter Technology Corporation - a global producer and distributor of specialty materials and engineered products - Rich Weiler has logged unusually broad experience at the policy level. He has led the sales and marketing functions, been a member of general management, and participated directly in the development and execution of successful growth strategies.
As Vice President Corporate Development, Mr. Weiler played a pivotal role in the design and execution of a several hundred million-dollar growth strategy that resulted in the acquisition of more than10 companies over a four-year period. He has also played key leadership roles in intensive strategic analyses at both the corporate and business unit levels at critical times in the evolution of the company.
Mr. Weiler led the marketing and sales effort of the company through a successful period of improved market share in targeted segments - refocusing marketing initiatives, introducing and testing a new distribution model, and constructing and implementing a new paradigm in sales account coverage.
Earlier, he served as Vice President and General Manager of the company's Tube Division, a large operating division. In this turnaround situation, Mr. Weiler lead his team in a far-reaching performance improvement process that resulted in increased profit margins. Key components of this process were the formulation of a new marketing and distribution strategy built around higher margin proprietary products and cost reduction through a wide-ranging productivity improvement process that provided double-digit gains. To support this process he led the successful renegotiation of a major labor agreement to facilitate improved competitiveness.
Active in industry-wide activities, he was an organizer and later chairman of an industry-wide Market Development Committee charged with expanding the use of stainless steel. This work has contributed to greater professional and public awareness of the properties and advantages of stainless steel across a broad spectrum of applications, and has significantly increased the use of stainless steel at the fabrication level, as well as per capita end-user consumption.
Mr. Weiler holds BS in Business Administration from Thomas Edison State College and an MBA with emphasis on Marketing and Finance from Keller Graduate School of Management.
